Empower Local Change: An Open Call for Selection Committee Volunteers
At the For Culver City Foundation, we believe in the power of community-driven solutions. Through our micro-grant program, we provide $2,500 grants to nonprofits, charities, and community organizations working to make a positive impact in Culver City. Our areas of focus include community development, education and youth programs, and arts and culture.
To ensure we select the most deserving recipients, we rely on the dedication of our Selection Committee. This group of volunteers plays a vital role in evaluating applications and determining which projects will receive funding. Now, we’re looking for passionate individuals to join this committee. If you care about the future of Culver City and want to help support meaningful local initiatives, we invite you to get involved.
Why Volunteer for the Selection Committee?
Volunteering for our Selection Committee is an opportunity to make a real difference in Culver City by directly influencing which projects receive funding. Here’s why you should consider joining us:
- Make a Tangible Impact
As a Selection Committee member, you will help ensure that deserving organizations get the financial support they need to bring their projects to life. Your input will help determine which local initiatives will move forward and make a lasting impact.
- Engage with Your Community
You’ll gain insight into the various efforts happening across Culver City to improve our community. Serving on the committee allows you to connect with other residents who share your passion for supporting local causes.
- Support Causes You Care About
Whether your passion lies in education, the arts, or community development, this role offers the opportunity to support the causes that matter most to you by helping allocate funding to projects aligned with these priorities.
How the Process Works
Our selection process is transparent and fair, giving each grant applicant a chance to showcase their potential. As a member of the Selection Committee, your role will include reviewing applications and scoring them based on predetermined criteria, such as the project’s potential impact and the organization’s ability to execute their plan.
What You’ll Do:
- Review Applications
You’ll receive access to a set of applications from organizations requesting funding. Each application will provide details about the nonprofit, their project, and how they intend to use the grant.
- Score Applications
Using a standardized scorecard, you will evaluate each submission across various categories, such as community impact, feasibility, and alignment with the foundation’s mission. This process ensures that every application is assessed fairly.
- Participate in Group Discussions
Once you’ve submitted your scores, you’ll take part in a group discussion with other committee members to review the highest-scoring applications and select the final recipients. Your voice and perspective will help shape these important decisions.
Time Commitment
The Selection Committee meets once per quarter, so your time commitment is manageable. Reviewing applications and scoring them can be done on your own schedule before participating in the group discussions.
Who Should Apply?
We’re seeking volunteers who:
- Are passionate about improving Culver City through grassroots efforts.
- Enjoy working with others and value different perspectives.
- Can evaluate applications fairly and objectively.
- Are willing to commit a small amount of time each quarter.
No prior experience in grant making or nonprofit work is required. We encourage anyone with a desire to contribute to the community to apply.
